When you’re building a home, you’ll also want to make a driveway. When it comes to driveways, there are 3 common options: gravel, asphalt, and cement. Each option comes with its pros and cons, so it really depends on your personal taste and your budget. Here is some helpful info about each of these 3 types of driveways:
- Gravel driveways are the cheapest of the 3 options. These driveways are common in rural areas where driveways tend to be longer. They are easy to repair, as you can easily fill in any potholes with extra gravel. However, they do require frequent maintenance and gravel will naturally wash away over time. With that said, gravel driveways are the best for draining rainwater and they’re also pretty eco-friendly overall.
- Asphalt driveways are in the middle when it comes to cost. While they are more durable than gravel driveways, they are also more expensive. And, while they are cheaper than concrete driveways, they do require more maintenance, especially seal coating every few years, and may cost you more in the long run. It’s also important to keep in mind that asphalt driveways tend to be the least eco-friendly option of the 3.
- Concrete driveways are the most expensive of the 3. However, if you can afford the higher upfront cost, you may save yourself some money in the long run as concrete driveways typically require the least maintenance and last the longest of the 3. Also note that concrete driveways are not as eco-friendly as gravel driveways.
